As I learn,
I fear.
I fear the ideas of hate, crime,
death.
I fear the realities of hurricanes,
screams of pain,
of horror.
Water unwelcome,
washing all in bleak blue,
darkness.
Murky, gunk- filled darkness.
As I learn,
I fear.
I fear the guns,
the weapons.
the anger,
through which we pull,
pull the little half moon,
causing pain, death, hate.
Ripping flesh, spraying blood,
what have we not to fear?
As I learn,
I gain strenghth.
I begin to not be afraid,
fear subsiding, hope sustaining.
I will fight for my safety.
Fear will not overcome me.
I will learn,
and I will hope.
